C.S. Mott CenterThe basic research facilities of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, located in the C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth and Development and, the Department of Physiology, located in Gordon H. Scott Hall, support the research activities of the Graduate Program Concentration in the Reproductive Sciences. However, the majority of graduate students in this concentration conduct their dissertation research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The C.S. Mott Center for Human Growth & Development is a 79,000 sq. ft. physical plant with over 28,000 sq. ft of basic research laboratory space. It is located on the northern border of the campus of Wayne State University School of Medicine. This facility is utilized exclusively to support the research activities of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and exemplifies the strong commitment of both the Department and the School of Medicine in supporting basic research in the field of reproductive science. Established with funding from the Charles Stuart Mott Foundation, the Mott Center was opened in 1973. Its mission is to foster basic and clinical biomedical and biobehavioral research on reproduction and development.

The Mott Center consists of four floors, with the ground, second and third floors containing the basic research laboratories. The first floor primarily houses administrative offices, conference and lecture rooms, and clinical research space. The building houses a large AAALAC-accredited animal facility ('vivarium') which is managed under the umbrella of Wayne State University's animal care program, the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR). Laboratories located on the third floor support the research activities of the NICHD Perinatology Research Branch (PRB) and a portion of the ground floor houses the University's Genomic Research Facility. Total renovations to the building's physical plant and research laboratories were completed in 2008.

Resource Centers to support graduate program activities are located nearby. The Shiffman Medical Library, situated one block south of the Mott Center contains more than 100,000 volumes and receives over 700 scientific periodicals annually. Additional resources for graduate study include Harper/Hutzel Women's Hospital Library, Harper/Hutzel Women's Hospital, the Science Library and the Computer and Information Technology Center. The latter two centers are located on the main campus of Wayne State University.
